I've been using the free version of uShop since Oct of last year. I recently purchased the full version. Before I go and start re-doing all the java applets, could you please tell me what would be involved in switching things over? Is there an easy way to do this? It seems that the applets I used for the free version, are not available in the full version.

In uShop 3.0, we renamed/combined many of the uShop 2.x applets. And by "combined" I mean that several of the uShop 2.x applets were combined into one configurable uShop 3.0 applet. For instance, these two uShop 2.x applets:

...which differed only in whether a quantity entry box was displayed or not... was replaced by one single uShop 3.0 applet:

.... which allows you to configure whether the quantity entry box is displayed or not via the new "show_qty" parameter.

So in other words, for all uShop 2.x applet, you should find corresponding uShop 3.0 applets. Just look around in the uShop 3.0 applet reference:

In regard to tips on upgrading from uShop 2.x to uShop 3.0, check out the following posting: contains a brief description of what is involved.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have another question. When using the free version, I was able to view the applets from FrontPage when "previewing in broswer", but now they are coming up grey. I can only see them after I move the page live. Do I have something wrong?

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I had kind of the same problem with the applets showing grey in FP.

My main folder was just called "New Folder", once I renamed it so there was no space between the folder name (eg:newfolder) it all worked fine.

One more note, for Bill Weiner if you read this post. I have read in previous posts people complaining that some of the applets are not working in I.E. once the or .exe file is unzipped or extracted. This could be their same problem. I notice that if any directory has a space between the name, some applets don't work, while some do. Netscape was fine, but IE was coming up with a Bad Path error. So to fix the problem, just rename the directory with no spaces in it.

I unzipped my .zip file in a folder I named "Retail uShop" ... 1/2 the applets didn't work. Soon as I renamed it "RetailuShop", they all worked fine.

See ya :)

Are all applets coming up grey... or just a some of them?

If just a few are coming up grey, then the problem may be as described at:

... which we believe is related to the search paths on some IE browsers.... Or possibly the "space-in-directory name" problem that Randy described above. In any case, that problem will be resolved once you try the applets out from your website.

Otherwise, if you are just seeing gray applets in general while using the "preview" mode of FrontPage.... then it is probably just a setting with FrontPage. Unfortunately, I personally, am not that familiar with FrontPage.... so I won't be able to help too much there. I can say, however, that if the applets were working with the free version... then just make sure you didn't combine any of the free version applets with the full version applets. (ie. replace ALL free version applets with the new applets).

Also, as something else to look into... if the "free version" that you are referring to is the free version of uShop 2.0 (a.k.a. uShop Lite).... then a significant change that may be affecting your FrontPage setup is the fact that in uShop 2.x all HTML page and class files were located in the same directory. Now in uShop 3.x, all class files are in a separate "classes" directory... so pay attention to your CODEBASE settings.
