Can coupons be configured for a specific item in a website. I know I can create a unique coupon for an item, but what stops someone from submitting that "coupon" for a discount on all the products on a site. Can it be specified only for certain items?
If not, that would be a great feature to add!

At this time, coupons created from the Coupon Manager feature of the uShop Control Panel will apply to any products purchased...and unfortunately, cannot be configured to apply to only to one product. But we'll add that ability to the Future Feature Wish List.
In the main time, other options you may want to look at is the uShopDiscount applets... in particular, the uShopDiscount2 applet which allows you to setup discounts for different "classifications" of products. So technically, you could give the product that you want to discount a unique classification (via the "classification" parameter)... and then setup the uShopDiscount2 applet to discount that product only.

I can't tell by the info in the User's Guide - is it possible to have, say, 5 coupons or discount types which apply to an item classification where the customer inputs which of the 5 dicount types is to be applied?
To be specific, I need the site to apply a user-input discount multiplier (1 of 5) only to purchased items of a certain classification. The customers will be notified of their multiplier by mail so each customer will have access to only one multiplier. Can this be done?

So it sounds like you want:
1) The ability to setup discounts based on different product classifications.
2) The ability to give customers (via email) different discount rates.
Is that correct?
Assuming that is what you're looking for, then you could use the uShopDiscount2 applet ( described in the applet reference at: http://www.uburst.com/uShop/applets.html ) to setup discount tables based on product classifications.
And in order to have different discount tables for different customers, you could setup multiple discount pages for which you would email links to the customers.
For example, you could setup the uShopDiscount2 applet with one set of discounts on a page called "discount1.html"..... And you could setup another uShopDiscount2 applet with another set of discounts on a second page called "discount2.html". (You could continue to setup additional uShopDiscount2 applets and discount pages as desired). Then in your email to customers, you would just link them to the appropriate discount page.

Thanks, Bill. The method you described should work.
I'd love to see a simpler discount vehicle in a future release of uShop.
If a discount could be applied to a specific classification at checkout - sort of a targeted coupon - what I'm looking to do could be done in one place, avoiding having to create multiple versions of each page.
Thanks for your help - uShop is a cool app!
