applying discount on selected products
Author Chris Duffy on 12-09-2002 at 23:26 (EST)
I may be using ushop 2.0. Some items in the store are not supposed to include the discount we offer partners. How can I exclude some products. Is it possible to do it in 2.0 or 3.0.

Thanks for all your help.

In uShop 3.x and later, there are various discount options available that can handle that.

In particular, a new "CLASSIFICATION" parameter has been added to each applet. This parameter allows you to apply discounts to products with specified classifications. Refer to the following two reference pages to learn about:

#1) The price & classification discount options:

#2) The uShopDiscount2 applet / discount options.

I should have said coupon rather than discount. I have uShop 3 since I do have the "classification" attribute in each applet. But I need to use the coupon rather than give everyone a dosicount. Will the classification idea work with the coupon?

Thanks for all your quick replies!

Unfortunately, no. At this time, the "classification" attribute isn't setup to work with coupons created with the Coupon Manager.

As an alternative option, if you want to limit who does/doesn't get the discount, perhaps you can setup a special "Discount" HTML page with just the uShopDiscount2 applet on it. You could then give out a link to that special discount page to only those customers who get the discount. (Basically that special "Discount" HTML page would act as the Entrance to your store for any customers who are given the special link.)

The problem is the members that are allowed the discount are not supposed to get the discount on all items. I need to make it only work on selected items for selected people.

You could just give the "Discount Page" link to those that you want to give the discount to. No one else will even know the "Discount Page" even exists.

(Again, the special "Discount Page" needs only to contain the uShopDiscount2 applet and a link to the online store.)

Could I copy and modify the order_template.htm so that it does not contain the coupon input box on one version. Then I could only put the items that are allowed the discount for our "partners" in the one special catalog. And then have the regular catalog with no discount for everybody. I realize that they would have to process the orders separately. But that I can make work.

You could setup two seperate stores ... or rather, you would only need to setup two independent sets of the uShop CGI scripts with two uShopOrderButton applets linking to each script ... but again, you may want to consider the "Discount Page" with the uShopDiscount2 applet option that I described above.

uShopDiscount2 applet won't help. We already limit who can use the discount. The problem is that the discount only applies to items we produce and not to conference and software that have low profit margins. So if I set up the two stores with one for partners only that has the discounted items. They can shop either place, but only the one will give the discount.

But you can use the uShopDiscount2 applet ... along with the "CLASSIFICATION" parameter of each input applet to mark which items are produced by you and which items are not.... essentially marking which items the discount applies to and which items the discount won't apply to.

Anyway, maybe I'm not fully understanding your requirements. If you feel it can be accomplished by setting up two seperate stores/CGI scripts... then go for it!
