Author ICNJill on 07-09-2002 at 01:25 (EST) | Okay.. here's a bonehead question. I would like to import my data and have done it successful just using notepad and creating the file that way. The problem is that it's a sucky way to do it. I couldn't figure out how to save file made in access as a flat file database that imported correctly?? How about in excel??? How do people normally prepare the file?? Just with notepad.. or what.
The instructions that came with it didn't help at all with respect to which programs to use to create the file, if any? I'd love to use something other than notepad. Any suggestions? Please email me your answer.

If the data is not being imported, then you may want try opening the Access/Excel-generated file with a text editor and see where the formatting is wrong.

So... how should the file be saved in any of these programs to reach the bar-delimited format???

Author Bill Weiner on 07-10-2002 at 06:47 (EST) | | I'm pretty sure there is a way (possibly in a Template Wizard??) where you can specify the delimiter to be any character you want. (Although, I just spent 5 minutes with Excel and didn't see it.) I guess worse-comes-to-worse, you could use a tab-delimiter and then do a search-and-replace on the generated file to change the tabs to bars. Kind of a pain, but....
Also, if you do use some intermediate delimiter, you'll probably have to use tabs... because commas and spaces will probably interfere with the uStorekeeper data.

Cause, if you couldn't see it, and I couldn't see it... well then... we're both missing something. I did the search and replace and it didn't work easily. Not worth doing as it added a variety of extras that needed to be tweaked out.
Surely, there's an easier way, eh?

In the meain time, if you export with the "tab" delimiter and then do the search-and-replace with the "bar" character... just be sure to do a "Replace All". That shouldn't be difficult.
