Clickable Category Image
Author Sae on 03-22-2001 at 12:14 (EST)
Hello everyone,

How can I make category image an active link (image next to the search box on top of every generated html page)?

It shuold go to any specified URL when clicked on it. I tried html code and also a code from commission junction which every page requests a specific code from an outside server with a given code when someone accesses that page in that category but it did not work. Please let me know how I can do this, it would help me alot.

Thanks,
Sae

To make the category image (in the Deluxe version) link somewhere:

STEP 1. Make a backup copy of your udirectory.pl file... just in case.

STEP 2. Open your "udirectory.pl" script with any text editor such as Word Pad.

STEP 3. Do a search on the following line:

$shtml .= "n";

(Within the "get_start_html" subroutine).

STEP 4. And replace that line with something similar to the following lines:

$shtml .= "http://www.yourdomain.com">";
$shtml .= "n";

STEP 5. Save the file (as TEXT if your editor asks)... and try it out!

Darn. The HTML didn't show up correctly... let me try posting it again:

Bill,

Thanks for responding. I am sure your direction is fine and I also learned a new code from you (I have not tried it yet) but I was looking for an easier way to change the URL of any category image from the category control panel that I don't have to edit the script every day if I want to change the URL and the image on a daily basis.

I tried this code: and it seems udir is not accepting html. Please let me know if this is possible or not yet.

Thanks,
Sae

There really isn't any easy way at this time to have the main category image on each category link to a DIFFERENT URL at this time. The best that can be done at this time, is to setup the main category images to link to the SAME URL... as discussed in my previous posting (see above).

Thanks Bill,

Maybe you could include this in your wish list for next version. Take care.
