Question about Business edition
Author Sandra on 11-19-2001 at 19:45 (EST)
Hi! I just downloaded and installed the business edition. I've set it to allow visitors to post/edit their own listings. The directions said provide a link on my website to the edit and add commands. I did this, but it doesn't seem to be working properly for me - asks visitors for the password to login?!

I was so excited about finally receiving the script, it's possible I could've overlooked something. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Here's my "add" link for visitors to add their own information:
http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl?add

Here's the "edit" link:
http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl?command=edit

Thanks!

Hello Sandra,

The problem may be question #8 in the udirectory.pl script that you setup.

Make double sure that the-

$visitor_editing = "NO";

setting is set to "YES" instead of "NO".
Save in a text editor (such as notepad or wordpad), upload in ASCII as opposed to BINARY, set the permissions as 755 and try it out!

Hope this helps.

Hi! Thanks for your speedy reply. I double checked and

$visitor_editing = "NO";

is set correctly. However, it's still not working for me. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Sandra

double check that:

$visitor_editing = "YES";

and change your "add" link for visitors to add their own information from :
http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl?add

to :

http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl=add

you have a ? instead of an =

Good morning! I tried the below but it's still not working.

http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl?command=add

http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl?command=edit

This URL also isn't working. Still asks for a password in order for them to add their listing.

Thanks for your help!

Ooops I forgot to add that I also rechecked that visitor was set to yes and it was.

$visitor_editing = "YES";

Thanks!

The URLs/Links that you should be using are:

http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl?command=add
http://www.ebookmax.com/cgi-bin/udirectory_business.pl?command=edit

However, since they are just displaying a "Login" screen, that means that there is still a problem with configuration question #9 of your uDirectory Business Edition Script. That is, that question should be set to:

$visitor_editing = "YES";

And I know you already checked that, but double-check it one more time and make sure:

1) That "YES" is spelled with ALL-CAPS. (Don't use "yes" or "Yes"... make sure it is "YES").

2) That you uploaded the script with the "YES" to your server. (Make sure the script with the "YES" setting was actually uploaded to your server and not just edited on your local computer).

Thank you for your patience with me, I'll recheck the "YES" now.
