3.0 Shipping strictly by percentage
Author Lawrence on 10-11-2000 at 22:06 (EST)
I saw a discussion in this forum dated last April that was started by a question from Darryl Hosford about calculating shipping strictly by percentage. At that time, uShop v3 was not released.

I have not found any documentation for calculating shipping strictly by percentage of the subtotal for version 3. IOW, my store wants to charge 15% for surface shipping for orders outside the US. Can it be done?

In the response to Darryl, it was mentioned that this could be simulated by a table. That would be fine if that was the only way to accomplish it. However, I was hoping that with version 3, percentage calculation may have been added.

Has it?

Thanks

Lawrence Kellie

Try using the "Subtotal Formula" as described in Section 11.1.4 of the User's Guide:

http://www.uburst.com/uShop/reference/users_guide.html#GENERALSETTINGS4

The subtotal formula calculates the shipping charge based on the formula:

Shipping Charge = (ORDER SUBTOTAL * X) + Y

So if you wanted to charge 15% of the subtotal, then you could set X to $0.15 and Y to $0.00...So your shipping settings could be:

CALCULATION TYPE: Subtotal Formula
SHIPPING NAME: My International Surface Shipping
SHIPPING TABLE/VALUE: $0.15,$0.00

Thanks. After posting this question, I saw those instructions in the reference manual. I attempted to try them, however, for some reason values are not being passed to my display_cart.html. It comes up blank. I have to try to figure out what is happening there.

See the response to the following posting for a resolution to the display_cart problem:
