3.0 Weight Tables
Author ronharter on 08-30-2000 at 11:53 (EST)
With UPS shipping they have a table for weights from 1 pound to 150 pounds in 1 pound increments.
I wonder if there is any restriction on how long the table can be and if it would slow down the processing if I used that long of a table.

I probably wouldn't use 1 pound increments but am considering 2 pound increments which would be 75 items long.

Thank you

In 3.0, there is no limitation to the size of the table....and in general, I don't think there will be any noticable time/processing problems if the table does get rather large.

On a side note, if the rates are predictable (ie. a constant formula), you may want to look into the new "Weight Formula" option.

I looked into the Weight Formulas and think I found a solution we can live with. I took the average from the different zones and then made the formulas as shown below. This will be really close and we will make a little on close orders and loose a little on far ones. But on ground shipping it will make less than a dollar difference.

Having the shipping charges calculated by the shopping cart will save us time by not having to answer emails on shipping charges. This is worth a lot to us.

I used the following for my cart.

UPS Ground $0.40,$4.00
UPS 3-day $0.90,$7.00
UPS 2-day $1.50,$8.00
UPS Next Day $2.75,$20.00

We will monitor it for awhile and see if it needs to be adjusted.
