How can I disable shipping on some products/no S&H
Author Laurie on 06-09-2000 at 16:53 (EST)
I've studied the exported.txt file and tried importing options under the deliminated 'shipping'[last one on line] to force ushop into charging 0 for some items [intangible downloads]. I've tried '0-10 and no' with no results, it still charges the rate I programed in, which I need for my Tangibles. I really don't want 2 carts, is this possible. I have ver v2.01.......

Thank u,

As a suggestion, try setting up shipping "BY_WEIGHT" and marking those items that you don't want to charge shipping for as having a weight of "0". This way, those products will have no impact on the shipping charges.

See the following URL for more information about shipping "BY_WEIGHT":

My products would not work by weight. plus I also want a minimum charge on my tangibles. It looks like I'll have to set up 1 catolog with 2 checkout carts - is this an alternative? Can it be done? 1 with shipping - 1 with no shipping on same url.........

How did you want to calculate shipping? BY_WEIGHT? BY_SUBTOTAL? BY_QUANTITY? or just as a FLAT_RATE?

Based on what you are using, you may still be able to simulate it by marking some items to have no shipping. For instance, even if you don't use the weight, you may still be able to use it help marked items that do have shipping charge by giving them a weight of "1"....and mark items that do not have a shipping charge by giving them a weight of "0".

Otherwise, yes, you can split the store up by just putting everything in two different directories on your server. (e.g., www.yourdomain.com/store1 and www.yourdomain.com/store2)

I don't see how I can use weight option... with over 1000 items ranging from 2-76 dollars, I like a 3.50 min on tangibles 10 percent + 2.00 after that..... all odd prices, 2.99, 12.30, 11.50, 29.95, 75.75, 45.40 etc.

Well, based on the information that you gave, it sounds like you want to base the shipping charge on the SUBTOTAL? That is, you want the shipping charge to be computed by the equation:

shipping = (subtotal * 10%) + $2.00

...with a minimum charge of $3.50.

This can be accomplished with a shipping table setup "BY_SUBTOTAL"..... but since you are basing shipping "BY_SUBTOTAL", then I don't think you will be able to configure some items as "tangible" and some as "intangible". If you were computing shipping "BY_QUANTITY" or "BY_WEIGHT", you could have used the weight parameter to mark the items that you wanted to charge shipping on or not....by simply giving "intangibles" a weight of 0.
