An applet to do this?
Author Duster on 05-06-2000 at 00:18 (EST)
I've looked, and perhaps I missed it, but I dodn;t see an applet for the following scenario:

Audio recordings, tapes are one price and CD's are another. The unit price drops if they buy moe than one title, as in the following:

CD's: $16 each. ------- Cassettes: $10 each
Buy 2 get 1 FREE ------ Buy 2 get 1 FREE
4 for $40 ------------- 4 for $28
5 for $50 ------------- 5 for $35
6 for $60 ------------- 6 for $42

Is there an applet that can do this?

No, there is not an applet like that at this time. ...plus, I imagine you would want the quantity/price calculation performed based on the total contents of the shopping cart anyway. In 3.0 we are adding a "classification" parameter so that you can mark items as belonging to a certain class, such as "CD" or "TAPE". That way, each time an item is added to the shopping cart, the total number of "CD"s or "TAPE"s can be counted and then such calculations applied.

As for now, my only suggestions are to use two different "uShopInputQuantityPrice" applets.... one for tapes and one for CDs.... Or as a more practicle solution, just use the various "uShopInputPriceOption" applets (such as the uShopInputPriceOption3 applet), and then try to work out some discount based on subtotal via the uShopDiscount applet.

I figured CDs and tapes would have to be done separately, and that's fine. However, the calculations on discounts should be done on the class of itmes, not total in shopping cart. Some of the products will have no discounts at all. Maybe the next version can add this ability, to calculate discounts based on classes.
