inserting select box/go-to navigation
Author Beth on 06-13-2000 at 22:29 (EST)
I'm trying to insert a javascript "go_doc()" jump to/navigation box at the top of each page. I've tried using single quotes instead of double quotes and still get the error "go_doc is not defined". Any suggestions?

I think the problem is that go_doc() is not a standard JavaScript function....so you will need to implement and add that JavaScript function to your page also.

(When implementing that function, you can probably just do something like:

location.replace('newpage.html');

or

window.location.href = 'newpage.html';

....where 'newpage.html' is the page that you want to link to.)

I'm not following you - I inserted the form for the select box in the Additional HTML/Top and under the form I've got:
SCRIPT LANGUAGE='JavaScript'
!-- Activate Cloaking Device
function go_doc()
{
top.window.location.href=document.forms[0].section.options[document.forms[0].section.selectedIndex].value;
document.forms[0].section.selectedIndex = 0;
}
// End Hiding --
/SCRIPT

Based on the fact that you are getting a "go_doc() is undefined error", it leads me to believe that your "go_doc" JavaScript function is not being seen for some reason.

For the "$top_html" field, we do perform a validation to removed the following special characters:

n and r (line feed and carriage returns)
&pip; (the bar character/delimiter)
" (double-quotes)

But all other characters (greater-thans, less-thans, single quotes, etc.) will be left alone. So I believe the characters that you are using in your JavaScript function are ok.

I do question, however, the following line:

SCRIPT LANGUAGE='JavaScript'

It may just be how you entered it so that it can be displayed in this forum, but just in case.... In that line, do you really have the backslashes? That is, I don't think you need them. I believe the line should just be:

SCRIPT LANGUAGE='JavaScript'

(and of course with the greater-thans and less-thans - which don't show up in this forum - around everthing).

So double-check that.

Otherwise, try viewing the source of the HTML page that is actually generated in your listings. See what actual HTML is being inserted at the top - or send me the URL and I will take a look at it - We may just see something there.

Can I email you the url (and password to get to the site), rather than post it? It's still in the almost-ready stage. I'm sure this is something really stupid that I'm just not seeing.

Sure. Send us an email or submit a support request at:
