Question about configuring shipping charges
Author Barbara on 02-02-2003 at 23:24 (EST)
I have a shopping cart I'm creating where each item (there are 11 items total to start, more to come) in the cart has its own shipping and handling cost. So one item has S&H of $14.98 another item has S&H of $9.98 and so on.Is there a way to configure it for a situation like this?

Thanks for your help! :)

In uStorekeeper, there is currently not a simple way to specify specific shipping charges on a per item basis.... but you may be able to simulate the effect that you are looking for by utilizing the "weight" setting for each product.

That is, you can give each product a unique weight... and then setup a shipping table that maps each specific weight to your desired shipping and handling charge.

Refer to section 6.1.7 in the uStorekeeper User's Guide for more information about setting up a shipping weight table:

If you need any assistance, give me the exact shipping prices that you want for your 11 items and I can help with the shipping by weight table.

Yes. that was my first thought also. But shipping also increases by quantity. I have a few items that are $0.00, one that is $1.98, a couple that are $6.98, $9.98, and $14.98. But if they order 2 of the same items they are charged 2 shipping and handling charges. If they order 2 different items they are charged both shipping charges. Not sure if weight would work this way.

I see... then what about just including the shipping & handling charges with the price of the product? You could still note the actual product price in the "Description" or "Notes" fields... and then give a note that the total cost shown in the cart includes shipping for each item.

Of course, this could cause problems if each product needs to be taxed yet you don't want to tax the shipping & handling charge.

Yes. that seems to be my only option. The store owner will just have to manually add the tax to it since tax is only charged for one state. Thanks for your help!
