Author john rupert on 07-04-2001 at 12:16 (EST)
I have added the folling to ushopcart1.cass
-show_weight
-yes
shipping now shows up in the large cart, but the total is $0.00 the correct shipping fee is applied in the final check out, how can I have the weight displayed so the customer knows his shipping fees before completing all the name and address data entry

Hello John,

You can try adding specific weight amounts to the description parameter part of each item, and that would tip the customer off as to the weight of the item, and show up in the big shopping cart.

Additionally-

The shipping and handling is not calculated until you go to checkout. This may be inconvenient but the shipping is based on the state, weight, etc and can't be derived until checkout time. That's why you can't see it until you visit the checkout page. This is typical of most shopping systems because tax, shipping and handling is usually based on where the customer lives....that is, information gathered when filling out the order form.
If you are concerned about customers being confused, then put some message on your shopping cart page...using standard HTML...saying something like "Tax, Shipping, and Handling will be automatically calculated for you when you fill out the order form".

Either that, or just put the "LARGE" shopping cart on the same page as your order form .... and they'll see the tax/shipping update as they enter their billing addresss.
