dynamic option lists
Author Ben on 03-16-2001 at 10:42 (EST)
I figured someone else has thought of this. I know it's technically possible...but I'm terrible at writing code and wouldn't want to use, or wait for, one of my own solutions...

Has anyone written a jscript or applet that will change the contents of an option list based on the selection made in a different option list? I noticed this has been discussed previously about a year ago...maybe someone has worked on it since then.

Thanks,

Ben

I still don't believe it is possible to dynamically change the contents of a Java Applet's drop down (Choice) list once the applet has been initialized.

It may be possible with JavaScript (now that uShop has an JavaScript interface API)... but unfortunately, I don't know of any way to do that with JavaScript. Perhaps it would be done by creating the menu with images... and then dynamically changing the images... but that could get pretty complicated.

uShop's applets thus far have been more than adequate to cover all of my needs, some of which are quite complex. However, the reason for my question is that I recently started carrying a line of products which are available with a set of primary options, of which there are about 10, each of which can have up to 25 sub-options, depending on which original option is selected.

The one thought I have had is that one can use jscript to create dynamic select options; many web pages use this lately. It might be possible to use a standard form input utilizing the uShopJSI.class applet.

I'll see if I can get that to work...I think it would be a great applet!
