didn't see a forum for "general questions" or "getting started" so hope the moderator will move this message if more appropriate area exists.

(disclaimer: yes-I read all the FAQ items)

from the standpoint of the web admin, after having installed ushop - what if any routine maintenance tasks (other than adding/deleting items) are required?

from the standpoint of the web owner (a non-technical person, order processor, accountant), where does the output reside for "new orders placed last night" ? since there is no database, is this accessible in a password protected hidden page or how does this work?

finally, from the standpoint of the customer placing the order, does he/she receive an email confirming the order?

A- If you set up uShop to delete the orders after you download them then there is no maintenance required (provided your host makes no server changes).

You have a variety of options in how you set your site up. The most typical setup is:
The customer places an order (securely via SSL), the store owner is notified (via e-mail) of the order but not sent the credit card information. The customer is also sent an email receipt.

The store owner then uses the secure order reader applet to access the credit card information from the server.

This information from our reference site describes the secure transactions in detail: http://www.uburst.com/uShop/reference/security.html

Yes (or no, depending on the options you choose).

If you are comfortable with HTML and building a website then uShop offers a lot of flexibility in the way you can present your items and has a wide variety of input applets.

uStorekeeper basically builds the site for you. It's a slightly easier to install. It is less flexible though in how you configure and present your items.

I'll see what I can do for a comparison list.
