Display Cart
Author Norma Scott on 03-29-2002 at 20:45 (EST)
Can the display_cart file be eliminated from the order process? I'd like to reduce the number of steps required to place an order. Right now I have a link to a "shopping cart page" that has the large shopping cart applet on it, plus the javascript "place order" button, which then goes to the display_cart file which then continues to the page of entering billing/shipping info etc. Either the large cart applet or the display_cart file needs eliminates. Any suggestions? If I eliminate the large cart applet, I'll want to customize the display_cart file. Plus put the "place order" button on my navigation menu which is on every page.Any problems with doing that? Thanks.

Unfortunately, the "display_cart.html" page is required in order to be able to transfer data from uShop's Java Applets to the uShop's CGI script. You can, of course, remove the large shopping cart applet from your pages ... but then the customer wouldn't have a way to remove items from the cart. Perhaps you could just use one of the smaller shopping cart applets. Customers would then still be able to delete items from their cart by selecting the item in the cart and pressing the delete key.

As for putting the uShopOrderButton applet on multiple pages... the only possible problem with that is that the uShopOrderButton applet will read the "template_cart.html" file when it is initialized... but I believe it was designed to only read the "template_cart.html" file once... so there shouldn't be any performance problems with each uShopOrderButton applet trying to re-read the "template_cart.html" file. So you shouldn't have any problem with that.
