Sales Tax
Author Patrick Shoaf on 10-31-2001 at 19:29 (EST)
I have a problem with Sales Tax...

We need to collect Sales tax from 3 states on clothes, and other items we sell...
State 1 - 6 or 7% tax on non-clothing by county
State 2 - 5.25% tax on everything
State 3 - 5%-7% tax on everything by county

States 1 & 3 require tax on shipping & handling
State 2 has no tax on shipping & handling

Any ideas on how to implement this?

Thanks

Hello Patrick,

It would probably be best just to set the default tax rate to zero, and giving users a drop down selection menu for selecting their tax rates.

So you'd be setting the Tax Menu Rates field to 0.0%, 5.25%, 6.0%, 7.0%
This would let customers select the tax rate for their area (which is useful for states that have multiple tax rates). Additionally, you could specify on your order form in plain text near the tax selection area that people in specific areas should select the appropriate tax rate for their area.

Hope this helps.
