Symbols in Support Forum

Hi Bill,

I discovered by accident how to make the < and > show up in the support forum.

For the < type & lt; (without the space after the &) for the > type & gt; (without the space after the &)

These character strings sometimes show up if you copy an applet from an html page. This should make it easier to post some of the scripts on the forum.

Huh?!... I thought I've tried using those escape sequences before:

< for < symbols and
> for > symbols

But what do know! Excellent! Thanks for the tip!

....Although from looking at my previous post... you can't get tricky by escaping escape sequences such as using:

& amp;lt;

to show the actual HTML code as

& lt;

...As that works when you preview it...but not when you post it.... (maybe that is what I was getting confused with)

But in anycase, just being able to show the greater-thans/less-thans will definitely help.

Thanks!

Apparently those special character may be browser related... that is, since the last post here, I switched computers and tried it out responding to this posting:

http://www.uburst.com/dcforum/ushop_applets_shopcart/67.html

And all of the tags were taken out again.

I will try putting the greater-than/less-than signs below once more using this computer and see. Here they are:

<
>

Let's see.

Ok, strike that... apparently such HTML tags as "FORM" tags are the problem. Let's see:

Without spaces around the FORM tag:

It was really strange they way I discovered it. I was responding to a post over the weekend and pointed out that the customer had some escape codes in his html for the applet. When I typed in the escape code the symbol showed up when I previewed the post. I had to put a space in so I could show what I meant. I'm not sure if he understood as he still has some in the uShopOrderButton2.class applet.
The person from the pen company. Sorry I don't remember the url.
