Order Reader
Author Hugh on 04-05-2001 at 09:44 (EST)
The order system works perfectly, except, I'm not able to use the Order Reader from the control panel. I get a Configuration Error, "unable to open directory." The diagnostics say everything is OK. What should I check? Thanks

That makes it sound like your "data" directory does not have "READ" permission.

Q1) Were you able to successfully configure the "GENERAL SETTINGS"? (This will verify that you data directory has WRITE permission)

Q2) Are you able to successfully CHANGE your general settings? (This will verify that your data directory has READ, WRITE, EXECUTE and MODIFY permission)

Q3) If you FTP to your data directory, are order files (ending in ".order") successfully being created?

Q4) What type of server do you have? Unix-type or Windows-type?

In any case, I would suggest double-checking item #6 on the following uShop 3.x reference page:

Bill, thanks very much for your assistance. When I changed the permissions from 733 to 777 for the data directory, the order reader finally worked. Everything else was correct.

Great! Just make sure that 777 doesn't allow regular website visitors from accessing that directory, as described in Section 4 at:
