Coupons don't auto-expire?
Author Gary Torello on 03-06-2001 at 17:21 (EST)
Hi!

I'll run out of questions soon.. I promise!

I've noticed during testing that if a customer uses a coupon, (enters coupon #) and places the order that the coupon is still available to use again! after receiving the order we have to manually delete the coupon... any quick-witted customer who realizes this could place multiple orders using the same coupon! (which we don't want to happen)

Have I overlooked something? Is there a setting to make coupons expire once they're used?

Thanks again!

Gary

The coupons will automatically expire based on the expiration date... but not after first use. That is, there is no feature at this time to prevent the same customer from using the same coupon again. Most storeowners don't really care if a customer uses the same coupon again (any orders are good orders)... but if you are concerned abou it, I would just recommend using "percent off" coupons instead of "flat rate" coupons... that way, customers will not get any advantage by placing multiple small orders as opposed to a single larger order.

Thanks Bill! that's too bad.. we set it up to use them for gift certificate redemption, that is.. assigning a unique number to a gift certificate, redeemable in the cart. May have to rethink that!

Add it to the wishlist please!

Yes, we have "Gift Certificates" on our future feature wish list... but there are some additional things that need to be worked out... such as adjusting the value of a gift certificate in the event that an order is less than the gift certificate's value. TBD.
