Can I use a secure server from another host
Author Dave on 11-14-2000 at 20:48 (EST)
I've recently purchased Ushop 3 to upgrade a trial version I downloaded last year. Problem is that my current host won't allow me to run executable CGI scripts on their secure server. So, I have a second host that I use for another website that will allow me to run CGI scripts on their secure server. My question is how do I run the applets and cart on one server and reference the Ushop.pl on another server. I need to know directory structure and the various permissions to set. I would just move the whole site to the new host, but my customer wants to have this puppy up quicker than I can move it. I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Not a problem! Simply install the scripts and create the "data" directory on your secure server as described in Section 10 of the User's Guide:

http://www.uburst.com/uShop/reference/users_guide.html#CGISCRIPT

.... and the rest (regular HTML pages and classes) goes on your public server.

In Short:

1) Setup your store pages as you normally would on your PUBLIC server.... including the "classes" directory as described in the instructions.

2) Setup your ushop scripts as you normally would on your SECURE server.... including the "data" directory as described in the instructions.

3) Make sure the "script_url" parameter of your uShopOrderButton applet properly points to the URL of the scripts on your secure server. (FYI: Upon pressing the uShopOrderButton, the control of the order process is transferred from the applets on the public server to the script on the secure server.)

NOTE 1: You do NOT have to put any of the classes on your SECURE server.

NOTE 2: You do NOT have to put any of the scripts on your PUBLIC server.

Hello,

I do this by keeping my main site listed and having the actual secure call up intact..then I upload the same site to a FREE host site and the links automatically work fine but the java scripts and codes all stay the same..and then I get 2 identical sites all using the secure call up on the main site and it is all still secure.

Example Site: www.everythingpets.8m.com
