Password Flexibility
Author Kelly Irvin on 06-18-2001 at 07:09 (EST)
I need to be able to access order reading separately from the rest of uShop administration. I need to have a password to administer, and I need to provide a password to our treasurer providing access only to the "Order Reader". The previous version of uShop had a specific order reading page not related to the rest of uShop administration. I need that kind of option with 3.4.

Those options aren't available with uShop 3.4.

Dear Joseph:

Thank you for the reply, but, this answer does not seem adequate. I don't expect to have a later version of a program cut back on options. I like the concept of using the scripting, but I've paid extra money for a program that is doing less than it used to do. Even if new bells and whistles can be touted, key engine parts are missing.

Adequate for you or not, that is the only answer I can provide.
uShop's Order Reader is much more secure now that it is integrated in the control panel. That is fact.

If you have need of altnernate shopping cart software, (all of which charge by the 15-minute increment for their support and cost a sight more than ours), we can recommend a few.

If you have further support questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,
Joseph Pishgar

I also are looking for this option.

Because i'm going away in about 2 1/2 weeks for a holiday i'm giving my jop to collect the orders which have been placed in our online shop to a other co-worker. Because i don't want them to look and have the abililty to change something in the configuration i'm looking for a option that that he or she can collect the orders without seeing or have the ability to see/change other information then the orders.

Is there not a possibility to make a applets like the order reader in version 2.x? I also must agree that cutting options and possibility's from a older release in a newer release in not a good thing to do. So please give me and the original poster of this message a solution to solve this problem? It's can be so hard to make a standalone orderreader option?

Marcel

Actually, I did make a modified version of the ushop.pl script for someone a little while back that only allowed the storeowner to read orders but not access anything else on the control panel. So send us a support request at:

http://www.uburst.com/supportform.html

... with your license number, and I'll send you that special version of the script.

(This will basically allow you to install a second copy of the ushop.pl script that can have a separate password and only allow use of the order reader.)

I went ahead and posted the script on our developer's page:

(See the 7/1/2001 posting).
