java buttons adding slowly
Author lee on 12-09-2002 at 20:00 (EST)
Hi,
Wanted to check to see if someone could take a look at my site. I am a little worried that by add to cart buttons are not adding it to the cart quick enough. Is there something that I can change on my pages of may it be the hosting server??
Thanks for the input.

The Java Applets actually run on your local computer, so once the applets are loaded, the speed/performance of the hosting server really doesn't matter.

Rather, what may be causing the slow "add" reaction time, is the large number of applets that you have on each page. I see that the "software" page alone has 50+ applets.

Having 50+ applets on a single HTML page is ok, but slower computers with less memory may see a performance degradation.

You may want to consider one of these options:

1) Seperating each category into multiple HTML pages... so you don't have to have so many applets on a single HTML page.

2) Utilizing the uShopInput20 applet, which allows you to add multiple "Add" buttons on a page... with only one applet.

3) Utilizing uShop JavaScript API/Option. This would allow you to put regular HTML form buttons on the page... which don't have the overhead of Java applets. The HTML form buttons can utilize the uShop JavaScript API to add the products to the cart when the buttons are pressed. Refer to the uShop Applet Reference (http://www.uburst.com/uShop/reference/applets.html) for more information on using JavaScripts with uShop.
