Items not added to cart in IE 5.0 for Mac

Although I had no problems with IE 4.5 for mac, items are not added in IE 5.0, though shopping cart shows up, and everything looks fine. Help!

We have had other reports of problems with Java applets running on the Mac version of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, however, we have not been able to verify this ourselves yet. Based on customer feedback, the general response has been that the applets run fine on Macs with Netscape…but not on Macs with IE. Every now and then, however, we get someone swearing that the applets run great on Macs with IE. -- We won’t know for sure until we can do some controlled testing ourselves.

Customers using either Netscape or IE with Windows or UNIX operating systems should not have any problems.

Hi,

I have the latest full version of the appletts and can confirm the issue of not working correctly on IE5 for MAC but ok on everything else.

Any idea when a fix will be available?

If there is a problem with the applets running on IE on a MAC, then we may just be at the mercy of the IE5/Mac browser (or rather it's implementation of the Jave Virtual Machine - JVM). The only thing we can do is try to perform some controlled testing to duplicate the IE/Mac problem and then try to find a work-around for it ....which is not impossible, because we have worked through weird problems with other browsers before. It could be something as simple as what codebase needs to be used for Mac operating systems or something trickier like tracking down a Java method that was implemented differently by the IE/Mac JVM. We'll see what we can do before the next release of uShop.

And just to gather more information about what you are seeing:
1) What version of IE are you using on a Mac? (Version 5 right?)
2) Is the problem just that when using IE on a Mac the items are not being added to the shopping cart?
3) Open up IE's Java Console and see if any "exception" messages are being displayed when you hit one of the input applet's "Add" buttons.

Again the problem appears to be only with MAC IE.

My set up is this. Throughout the shopping experience the screen is divided into 2 frames with the shopping cart at the bottom, items to buy on top. When ready to order, links from either frame take you to a new page, the order form, again the shopping cart is displayed here. (no frames).I am not using a secure server.

In IE 4.01 the items tranfer to the shopping cart yet when you go to the order form all the items disappear from the shopping cart.

In IE 5.0 the items won't transfer into the shopping cart.

Could there be a problem with MRJ (Mac Runtime Java)?

Are you using the "CODEBASE" parameter to specify the location of the class files? Or all of the class files located in the same directory as your HTML pages?

If using the CODEBASE, then make sure the CODEBASE setting of your order form applet is EXACTLY the same as the CODEBASE of all of your other applets.

Otherwise, give me the URL and I will look at it and to see if there is anything obvious with the HTML/directory structure.

Note that we have had mixed reports on how well IE on Macs work with uShop. Some reports indicate that items are not added to the shopping cart - while other reports say everything works great. Due to lack of Mac resources here, we have not been able to perform any controlled testing with Macs yet, but we are looking for volunteers to assist with testing. That is, we have a test site setup where volunteer Mac users can help determine if there are any problems or not....and if there are any problems, help narrow down a work-around for it. (It may be as simple as a specific way to setup the CODEBASE). In any case, if you have a Mac and would like to assist testing (basically by giving us feedback on whether the test site works on your Mac IE browser or not) ... send us an email and we'll give you more information.

Otherwise, just give me your URL and I'll take a look at the HTML of your site.
