"How are order files created?"
Posted by jgo on Mar-28-00 at 11:39 AM (EST)
Hello,

Before purchasing uStorekeeper, I was wondering
if someone could tell me if and how an order file
is created once a customer submits an order.

Is it feasible to take this order file and, using
a perl program, extract all the pertinent fields,
such as first name, last name, item #, etc., so
that it can be downloaded into a database of
orders that I have already created?

Thanks for any help,

Jose

uStorekeeper has the option to save customer information (minus the payment information) in a bar-delimited address file. See the following link to the User's Guide for more details about the format of this file:

http://www.uburst.com/uStorekeeper/UsersGuide.html#AdditionalSettings

(Read the part about the 'Maintain Address Book' option under the 'Additional Settings' section).

This address file will get you such information as: First Name, Last Name, Street 1, Street 2, City, State, Zip Code, Country, Phone, Fax, and the Email

If you want to get more information, such as the actual product ids, product names, product prices, that the customer purchased, then yes, you can write some other Perl program to parse the order files to get that information. The order files will contain the customer information described above, some product information for each product, the customer's payment information (if using the cc form or echeck form), and some other general information about the order (pretty much all the information displayed when using uStorekeeper's Order Reader feature). The format of this file is also a bar-delimited text file - so you should be able to write a script to parse the info for your database.
