"Error in opening 'data' file upon searching "
Posted by TW on May-25-00 at 10:02 PM (EST)
A search for keywords, produces a full product list, but when clicking on any of the links, I get the error: FILE ERROR: Unable to open ./data/NONE

I've also tried the full path to the data file located in the cgi-bin directory, but to no avail.
Am I missing something?

Thanks

That is a strange one. Do all of the other features of your uStorekeeper store work correctly? That is,

1) From the control panel, can you add categories?

2) From the control panel, can you add listings?

3) When browsing the store, can you go to different categories by selecting the category from the category list at the top of the page?

4) When browsing the store, can you add items to the shopping cart?

The answers to these question will help narrow down the problem. Otherwise, give me the URL and I will take a look at it.

Yes, everything works perfectly except for the search function.
I can add products, delete products, add categories, shop the site, go through all the motions except for actuall searching the site using the search feature.

I've tried changing permission settings as well.. could it be my 'data' file has to be located outside of the cgi-bin? and if so, would moving it now, change the store, ie, all the products I entered?

Thanks for a great product, and this support board.
Thom

Since you mention that the rest of the store's functionality is working (creating categories, adding listings, browsing the store pages, adding products)... that means that the "data" directory has the correct permissions and that files are being written/read from it.

Going back to the base of the error then:

"FILE ERROR: Unable to open ./data/NONE"

...when clicking on any of the links on the search results page...

That means that for some reason, it is trying to go to the page "NONE"...which obviously doesn't exist in your "data" directory. Instead of NONE, is should be something like "my_catagory.html".

Looking at the code, I can only see three things that could be causing this:

1) The "ustorekeeper-categories.txt" somehow got corrupted or changed. However, since you mention that the other store functions work fine, then this is probably not the problem.

2) The category names have special characters (such as "&" or "?" signs). But again, since the other store functions work fine, then this to is
probably not the problem.

3) The last option is that perhaps something in the script accidentally got changed. So maybe try transferring a new copy of the "ustorekeeper.pl" file to your server and see if that corrects the problem.

Otherwise, send me the URL or submit a support request with the URL and we will take a look at it.
