"address.csv"
Posted by Clark Pearson on Feb-20-02 at 04:02 PM (EST)
I'm in the process of upgrading from uShop 2.0. I use that version to capture all addresses in a spreadsheet (address.csv). Is there a similar feature in 3.45 that allows me to record a spreadsheet file that captures that same info? Can I capture more info? Like items ordered and order total? Sorry... I just can't find this in the documentation.

Thanks!
Clark

Why YES you can! On the uShop 3.x control panel...under GENERAL SETTINGS - MISCELLANEOUS... there are two settings that relate to maintaining customer information and maintaining product information:

Maintain Customer Log: YES/NO
Maintain Inventory Log: YES/NO

If set these fields to YES, the customer and inventory information will be written in the files "ushop-customers.log" and "ushop-inventory.log", respectively.

See section 11.1.6 in the uShop 3.x User's Guide for more information about these data recording options: http://www.uburst.com/uShop/reference/users_guide.html

Very cool. Did you guys not like the .csv format? I could just click on the file and open it in Excel... I can still open these new ones in Excel, it's just not nearly as slick. (Or am I missing a quick way of opening them without defining the file type and delimiter each time???)

Thanks for the info!

It may just be that Excel is not recognizing the ".log" extension. If you want to change the file names to have ".csv" extensions instead of ".log" extensions, then you can change them by modifying the:

$customer_log = $data_directory . "ushop-customers.log";
$inventory_log = $data_directory . "ushop-inventory.log";

....variable settings near the top of the "ushop-lib.pl" script.

That is:

STEP 1: Make a backup of your current "ushop-lib.pl" script... just in case.

STEP 2: Open your "ushop-lib.pl" file with any text editor such as WordPad.

STEP 3: Do a search on the following lines:

$customer_log = $data_directory . "ushop-customers.log";
$inventory_log = $data_directory . "ushop-inventory.log";

STEP 4: Change those lines to:

$customer_log = $data_directory . "ushop-customers.csv";
$inventory_log = $data_directory . "ushop-inventory.csv";

STEP 5: Save the script... as TEXT if your editor asks... and try it out!
