"Shipping Question"
Posted by Paul Cangialosi on Feb-07-01 at 07:35 PM (EST)
If using the weight formula method even if I flag an Item as zero weight Ushop will still calculate the Y amount as the total. A simple fix to this could be a line of code that says if the product weight equals zero the result is zero. If you offer some items that have free freight ( specials for example) combined with items that need to have freight charged by this method do you have a work around?

FYI - I got my shopping cart up and running notime. Your applets rule!

Yes, I see what you mean about the use of the "Weight Formula" and wanting a way to specifically mark certain items as free shipping. We'll look into some ways of flagging certain items as free, but in the mean time, check out the suggestions that I posted in reply to your other question:

PS. Thanks for the nice compliment! :^)

The adjustment to the ushop-lib.pl works great. If you use the weight formula method and want a free shipping product you just set the shipping modifier of the product to a negative "Y". If Y in your weight formula is say $4.35 set your modifier to $-4.35 and presto free shipping on some products combined with non free in others. Great work around.... thanks!

Great! Glad to hear that worked for you. I'm sure it will come in handy for others.

We'll probably add that work-around into a future update.... but we'll also look into the possibility of defining some keyword/flag so that you don't have to bother using a negative weight for the product. TBD.

My client wants to use a order *value* shipping table.

But, they also offer on-line subscriptions which should have $0 shipping.

Can I do anything about this?

So you basically want to setup a shipping table based on the order subtotal....but still have some items with free shipping?

If so, then there are a couple different ways that you can handle that.... depending on the number/prices of your product and the type of subtotal table you want to setup. Here are a few suggestions:

1) Possibly just use the shipping_modifier for each product... and not bother setting up a shipping subtotal table. This will let you mark the items with free shipping ... unfortunately, the final shipping calculation will not vary based on the subtotal.

2) Or as a trick, you could use the "weight" parameter to mark the free shipping items. That is, specify the "weight" of all items as being equal to their corresponding price... except for the free shipping items... mark their weight as 0. You can then setup a shipping by weight table... just as you were going to setup subtotal table.

3) Or depending on the rates of your desired subtotal table, there may be a way use the negative shipping modifier trick as described in the above posting.

4) Or worse comes to worse, you can try implementing your own custom_shipping subroutine in the "ushop.pl" script. This may involve traversing through the $cart_data global variable to identify the product numbers of "Free Shipping" items. (Send us a support request at http://www.uburst.com/supportform.html if you need assistance).

In any case, we'll see about eventually getting a simple flag in there to mark items as having free shipping.
