"Question About S&H with Small Shopping Cart..."
Posted by Drew on Nov-10-00 at 05:56 PM (EST)
Is there any way to display shipping and handling charges in the SMALL Shopping Cart Applet? I want my customers to not only be able to keep up with a running total of the items they select, but shipping & handling charges as well. But I want to do so using only the SMALL Shopping Cart...without the item descriptions, quanity, etc. Is this even remotely possible??

Because the shipping and handling charges are usually based on where the order is going to be sent....the shipping and handling charges are not displayed in the shopping cart applets. But here are a couple options:

1) Most people just put a note on their HTML pages saying that:

"Tax, Shipping, and Handling will be calculated for you automatically when you fill out the order form."

2) Another popular techinique is just adding a link on your HTML pages.... linking to another HTML page (or JavaScript popup window) that displays a static shipping table... So that customers can read (and guestimate) the shipping charges themselves...whenever they want.

3) A third, but more difficult option, would be to write your own JavaScript that will display the current "Estimated Shipping Cost". This could be done by setting up a JavaScript timeout() that executes an other JavaScript function similar to:

function estimateShipping()
{
if (document.uShopJSI != null)
{
var subtotal = document.uShopJSI.getSubtotal();
var weight = document.uShopJSI.getTotalWeight();
var quantity = document.uShopJSI.getTotalQuantity();

// Perform your own shipping calculation here and then use a
// document.write() call to display the estimated shipping charges.

}
}

See the uShop 3.0 Programmer's Guide for more information about writing your own custom JavaScripts to interface with uShop.

The above posting refers to uShop 3.0. If you are using uShop 2.0, then yes the shipping and handling are displayed in the Shopping Cart applets (after viewing one of the Order Applets at least once) but in regard your question, unfortunately No, their isn't any way to display the shipping and handling in the "SMALL" version of the uShop 2.x shopping cart applet. Perhaps the "MEDIUM" version would work for you?
