How can I find out that Java is turned on in the user's browser?

In Netscape browsers, look under "Edit - Preferences - Advanced".

In IE browsers, look under "Tools - Internet Options - Advanced".

Is that what you were looking for?... Or are you you trying to do something via HTML/Java/JavaScript?

Note that you can always put HTML within the Java tags like this:

< APPLET CODE="uShopInitialize.class" CODEBASE="../classes/" WIDTH=201 HEIGHT=61 >
< PARAM NAME="image" VALUE="ushop_logo.gif" >
< PARAM NAME="currency_symbol" VALUE="$" >
< PARAM NAME="show_euro" VALUE="NO" >
You must have a Java Enabled browser.
< /APPLET >

... and the "You must have a Java Enabled browser." message will be displayed if the Java applet isn't.

I am looking for some Java Script code so I can display an alert box when Java is not turned on. Do you have any?

Here is a JavaScript function that will display an alert box if Java is not enabled:

< script language="JavaScript" >
function checkJava()
{
if (!(navigator.javaEnabled()))
{
alert("You must have a Java-Enabled browser.");
}
}
< /script >

Superb, it worked after I removed some of the extra spaces you wrote.
