"Delimiter text file or excel file for product information"

Is there any way of entering your product items into the shopper software without having to enter them via HTML. I have a long product list that requires updating often and would like to keep the product information in a delimited type text file or excel file. Any comments (good or bad) would be appreciated.

Steve,

Have you considered a database driven site? I have coded Cold Fusion/uShop sites. The item information is entered into a database (Access works fine). www.islandsensations.com is an example. I only had to code one item page and one detail page. The applet fields are populated by the database and page rendered. Very easy to update and maintain.

Short of a database driven site there is no way to populate the applets automatically (that I know of).

If you decide to pursue a CF driven site then I would be glad to send you a copy of the templates that I used.

8 . "ColdFusion Express & Templates - Does it work?"
Posted by Cliff Etzel on May-27-00 at 07:50 PM (EST)
Hi Charlie - Wanna say thanks for the templates - I am really getting a feel for what you can do with them. I have a question though - I currently am using the evaluation copy of ColdFusion and wanted to know if the CF templates can be implimented with ColdFusion Express. Before I dump a BUNCH of $$$ into a licensed copy of CF Pro, I wanted to see if it was possible. If so, My needs are met with your app and the CF Templates.

Any input on this?

9 . "CF Express"
Posted by Charlie Edmunds on May-27-00 at 08:32 PM (EST)
Cliff,

I was hoping you could tell me. :)

I think so, but don't know for sure. I always have access to the other versions and haven't played with Express.

From the limitations that I know about the templates should work but I would test it to find out.

I think express doesn't support some of the more esoteric functions and has no custom tag support. Let me know, I'd like to hear.

Glad the templates helped you.

10 . "Update on Your Templates and CF Express"
Posted by Cliff Etzel on Jun-11-00 at 12:28 PM (EST)
Well Charlie - After doing a hardware upgrade to a Dual Processor Development server, I installed CF Express and sure enough, the combination of uShop with your CF templates works without a hitch with CF Express.

This might very well be a major boon to us developers. I did discover that MSDAC 2.5 needs to be installed to work with Access 2000 Db's. The version that comes with CFExpress or even the 4.0 Pro version causes error messages.

I am working with it more and have a sample website running all of the aformentioned tools.

Thanks again for the template pages.

Now back to work...

Steve,

Unless you use an application server: PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion, there is really no way to auto populate your items (with uShop).

Have you looked at uStorekeeper? It has provisions for populating your items with an import feature.

This is the url: http://www.uburst.com/uStorekeeper/features.html

Thanks, Charlie Edmunds

11 . "uShop and CF Update - it works on Linux"
Posted by Cliff Etzel on Jun-28-00 at 10:44 AM (EST)
Hi Charlie - Just a quick note to let you know that I have your ColdFusion templates and uShop running under Linux. The install was actually quite easy.

Here is my setup:

Dual PII 266 w/ 128MB Ram
Redhat 6.2 w/ SMP support
Netscape iPlanet 4.1 Server
ColdFusion 4.5.1 Pro for Linux

I will be testing more completely when Netscape releases Fasttrack 4.1 for Linux and Allaire releases CF Express for Linux (both due by the end of July)

IF you want more particulars, please contact me.
