"Flat file d bases"
Posted by Bill on Feb-15-02 at 08:49 PM (EST)
I have a very extensive flat file database with our product information already saved with different field positions than what ushop calls for.

Is there any way to change the way ushop reads the order of ields. For example...lets say all of our images files are in the 6 field position but ushop reads the image files in the 15 field position. Can I tell ushop to look for image files in the 6 feild rahter than the 15 field?
Thanks,
Bill

It sounds like you are referring to the data file format of the uShopBrowse and uShopSearch applets, correct? Unfortunately, the format of the data file used by those applets (and described in section 7.3.1 of the uShop User's Guide http://www.uburst.com/uShop/reference/users_guide.html) is not configurable at this time.

Perhaps you could use Excel to write your own MACRO/manipulate your data into the correct format.

Or if you feel that all the fields are in the correct format that uShop uses (and described in 7.3.1 of the user's guide) and the only difference is the ordering of the fields, then you can try submitting a support request at http://www.uburst.com/supportform.html with your license number, a description of the field ordering, and the actual applets that you want to use... and we may be able to help you out.

If you have Microsoft Office or Microsoft Access, you can import you table into Access, create a query that has the data in the order uShop wants, and then export the results of the query to a flat file for uShop to read from.

Its an extra step, rather than have uShop modified to use your format (which probably ain't gonna happen anytime soon), but it works, with very little effort.
