"Browse applet"

Bill

I'm getting a security exception - even when running the demo/tutorial ("out of the box/zip") for the Browse/Search applets.

Any ideas?

If I create a test.html and upload it to the site it seems to work.

Unfortunately, the applet(s) won't run locally???

Hi Bill

1. Yep, got the search applet working on line, but can't get it to work locally. Is this a limitation (just makes testing a bit more difficult)???

2. If the text file is a fair size (say 200+ items), the length of time between pressing "search" and the first product coming up can be 20-20 seconds. No problem except that theres no indication that the applet/web site is doing anything. Any chance of the applet giving a "please wait - searching" msg??

3. It looks like the applet does an exact search, i.e. if you type in "A B" and the text "A B" must exist in that order - it can't find "A B", "B A" etc etc. Is this correct. If so, any chance of enhancing the search routine??

1) We've had a few other reports of those "Search" and "Browse" applets running fine online ... but not locally. One theory is that it has to do with the search paths of the browser on the local computer....and what has worked for some people is to do a FILE - OPEN with the browser on the html file instead of just double-clicking on the file's icon. The important thing is that those "Search" and "Browse" applets work online, but since some people want to use them on CD-ROM stores.... we're still looking into it.

2 and 3) Good suggestions. We will be looking into enhancing those applets for a future update.
