"How do I write chmod permissions?"

I'm not a computer expert or something like that. I'm actually very new to Cgi. And I do not know how to write CHMOD permissions. I wish i could get a CHMOD permission by somebody who knows how to write it.

Thanks,
Kri

Most FTP programs will (such as WS_FTP) will have an option where you can:

1) Highlight the file on your server by left-clicking the mouse,
2) Then bring up a menu by pressing the right mouse button,
3) And on the menu you will see an option called "permissions" or "chmod".

A pop-up display will then give you an option to make files READABLE, WRITEABLE, and EXECUTABLE.... by essentially issuing a "chmod" command to the server.

Some common chmod commands:

To issue a "chmod 777" command, check all 9 of the permission boxes.

To issue a "chmod 755" command, check all 3 "read" boxes, all 3 "execute" boxes, and just the left "write" box.

To issue a "chmod 733" command, check all 3 "write" boxes, all 3 "execute" boxes, and just the left "read" box.

Note that these "chmod" commands will only work on UNIX-type servers. If you have an Windows server, then you will probably have to get your web hosting provider to change the permissions for you.

Also, if you've never installed Perl scripts before on your server, I would recommend starting out with the basic test script described at:
