"Cannot get an order to go through on NT"
Posted by Cliff Etzel on Oct-21-99 at 07:13 PM (EST)
I am attempting to test out uShop and am having a terrible time getting the order to go through. Everything is setup correctly according to the FAQ on the site.

When I click on the place order button, the following message pops up in my browser:

You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.

I have triple checked the permissions on the /scripts folder and each file as well. They have the necessary permissions. So why can't I get it to work?

TIA for your reply.

Hi Cliff,

Sorry your having trouble getting going. It sounds very much like a permissions problem. How are you changing the permissions? WS-FTP will not change permissions on an NT server. It will also give a false display of what the permission actually is.

Some NT hosts have a special utility that allows you to check/change permissions yourself. Many others however, require you to contact the host and have them set the permissions.

Hope this helps you out. Let me know if this helps you solve your problem.

Thanks,

I actually had the NT server on my LAN - so I was able to change permissions directly - after several hours of frustration, I wiped my drive and reinstalled Linux on it - Now it runs like a champ. I want to say thanks for the reply though. Sometimes the best solution is using what works best - Linux!

Cliff,

That is a permissions problem. If you are using NT then you probably cannot check or change your permissions. Your webhost will probably have to do it. WS-FTP makes it look like you are changing NT permissions but that is not the case. It only changes unix permissions. If you are somehow referencing the wrong directory you might get that error message also.

Good luck,
