"Cookie Reporting Error"
Posted by jenbak on Nov-01-02 at 05:25 PM (EST)
I am having trouble with the cookie reporting for affiliates.

The cookie is being set on computers and the information is apparently registering in the ushop-affiliates.log but when I go to see the affiliate reports from the ushop.cgi, the information is not showing up for the affiliates I am attempting to view the reports for.

The website address is www.jenbaksalescanada.com.
the script location is https://medica.safe-order.net/jenbaksalescanada/cgi-bin/cgi/ushop.cgi

the path to the data directory is /home/jenbaksalescanada/www/cgi-bin/data/

I have tried calling the cookie.pl file using ALL of the recommened ways on the user_guide.html and the http://www.uburst.com/uShop/cookies.html information page.

I am using ushop version = "3.45

I hope I have provide enough information to make it easier to help me figure out what is happening.

Maybe the files are not chmod ed properly? I do know that the cgi scripts are chmod 755.
Should the data text and log files be chmod 777.

If not, what should each file be chmod ed too. I understand 700 is best, 733 ok .

I will be willing to provide ftp shell access if required to ADMIN of Ushop.

I have spent the last several moonths trying to figure this problem out and I have finally given in and as a lat resort, I am asking for assistance here. I am savy in computer and basic cgi script programming.

Thank you for your help.

Bill Baker.

This is the script I would like my affiliates to post on their websites to set the cookie

The image source script located on the page http://www.uburst.com/uShop/cookies.html, section 7.

https://medica.safe-order.net/jenbaksalescanada/cgi-bin/cgi/ushop.cgi?id=exampleid"

I think it is correct to call this link from https: since when I call this link from http: nothing registers at all. Not even in the ushop_affiliates.log.

Thanks,

Bill

As of course, you've read (probably a bunch of times), there are a variety of options for setting of uShop's affiliate cookie/tracking option, as described at:

http://www.uburst.com/uShop/cookies.html

For now, let's just go with what you have working at:

https://medica.safe-order.net/jenbaksalescanada/cgi-bin/cgi/ushop.cgi?id=exampleid

That is, from your description, it sounds like that URL is properly setting the cookie and the cookie is properly being registered in the ushop-affiliates.log file, correct?

And so the only problem is that you are not seeing the affiliate information when doing an affiliate report on that affiliate from the uShop control panel, correct?

Going to that URL:

https://medica.safe-order.net/jenbaksalescanada/cgi-bin/cgi/ushop.cgi?id=exampleid

1) I definitely see the affiliate cooking being set.

2) And upon starting the checkout process, I definitely see that the hidden affiliate "id" is properly being set to "exampleid" (by viewing the source of the first checkout page):

< INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="id" VALUE="exampleid" >

3) And again based on your description, it sounds like the ushop-affiliates.log file is being updated.

I couldn't verify this myself at:

https://medica.safe-order.net/jenbaksalescanada/cgi-bin/cgi/ushop.cgi?command=report

... because I don't know the password that you set for the "exampleid" affiliate.

But I can say that this indicates to me that everything is most likely setup properly, however, you may not have actually created an affiliate with the "exampleid".

That is, did you remember to actually Add/Create the "exampleid" affiliate via the uShop Control Panel? If you don't actually "Add" the affiliate via the uShop Control Panel, that affiliate won't be listed in any affiliate reports. So check that.

--------------

(By the way, on an entirely different subject, when testing out your website, I noticed on your page at:

http://www.jenbaksalescanada.com/placeorder.html

That you accidentally have the "script_url" parameter of your uShopOrderButton applet set to:

https://picus.safe-order.net/healthybyherbs/cgi-bin/cgi/ushop.cgi

instead of:

https://medica.safe-order.net/jenbaksalescanada/cgi-bin/cgi/ushop.cgi

Note the "https://picus" instead of "https://medica". You probably want to correct that.)
