It sounds like your "udirectory" directory does not have READ, WRITE and EXECUTE permissions. To verify this, look on your server and see if the udirectory-configuration.txt file has been created in your "udirectory" directory. Probably not.

Note that the "udirectory-configuration.txt" file is created by uDirectory after the first time you "Configure Listings". If it is not being written, then there are a couple things to check:

1) Have you created the "udirectory" directory on your server?

2) Is the path to your listings directory (that you specified in question #4 of the script setup):

/www/houseboat/udirectory/

correct?

3) Does your "udirectory" directory have the correct permissions? You should give this directory READ, WRITE, and EXECUTE permission.

For NT servers, you may have to get your Web Hosting Provider to give that directory READ, WRITE, and EXECUTE permissions (since FTP programs do not work when changing permissions on NT servers).

For UNIX servers, you can use your FTP program to set the permissions. Just select the "udirectory" directory, press the right mouse button and select "permissions". Choose all the READ boxes, all the WRITE boxes, and all the EXECUTE boxes then press "APPLY" or "OK". This basically issues a "chmod 777" command. (Note that depending on what FTP program you are using, the procedure to change the permissions may be slightly different - but just make sure the directory has READ, WRITE, and EXECUTE permissions.

I have tried everything that you have mentioned with no luck. I am still getting the error "File Error Unable to open ../listings/udirectory-configuration.txt" after initial configuration in the control panel. Here's a rundown of what I have done:

1) Have you created the "udirectory" directory on your server? -==> YES but called it "listings"

2) Is the path to your listings directory (that you specified in question #4 of the script setup):

/www/houseboat/udirectory/

correct? ==> "../listings";

3) Does your "udirectory" directory have the correct permissions? You should give this directory READ, WRITE, and EXECUTE permission.

===> YES

For NT servers, you may have to get your Web Hosting Provider to give that directory READ, WRITE, and EXECUTE permissions (since FTP programs do not work when changing permissions on NT servers).

===> I called them. (INTERLAND) Permissions are set. The script has READ, EXECUTE (cgi-bin)
The "listings" folder has READ, WRITE, EXECUTE

I am at my wits end with this. I hope you can give me some recommendations. Thanks

It sounds like using the relative path for your $html_directory setting is not working. Try the full path to your listings directory. Based on the information you specified above, it sounds like your $html_directory should be set to:

$html_directory = "/www/houseboat/listings/";

(instead of using "../listings")

(Note, you may also want to make sure that using "/www/houseboat/" is the proper way to specify full directory paths on your server....that is, some servers use /users or /htdocs or something like that. So double-check that..... but do try using the full path to your listings directory and that should do the trick.)

I discovered that I must use the following:

/myIPaddress/listings/

Thanks for all your help. Now I need to see if I can get this email portion to work.

Thanks a bunch!
