How to allow visitors add a listing but NOT to edit it later on?
Hi - I have seen this modification instruction some where here a year ago, I looked every where but can't find it now

I would like to modify the Udir script to allow visitors to add a listing but not to edit that listing in the future, I would like to take a way only the editing option but let them to submit their listing. please could you post the instruction here again.

Thank you,
Sae

The easiest thing to do would be to not give them the "?command=edit" link... since most people are not going to know how to do that. Just leave the "?command=add" link on the page.

Or, if you actually want to modify the script to disable the visitor editing feature, here's how to modify the uDirectory Deluxe script to disable visitor editing.... and still allow visitor adding:

STEP 1: Make a backup of your udirectory.pl script... just in case.

STEP 2: Open your udirectory.pl script with any text editor such as WordPad.

STEP 3: Do a seach on the following line:

elsif ($pCommand eq "edit")

STEP 4: Delete that line AND the next 11 lines... all the way to just BEFORE the line that says:

elsif ($pCommand eq "cp_general_settings")

STEP 5: Save the script... as TEXT if your editor asks... and try it out!

Hi Bill,

Thank you for quick response.

Can I rem those 12 lines instead of deleting them, can I put "rem" or "#" sign in front of each line. Please let me know.

Thanx,
Happy Holidays
Sae

Yes, you can comment out those lines (instead of deleting them), by adding a pound ("#") in front of each of those lines.
