"configuring this for Windows NT"
Posted by smartwhale on Jul-17-00 at 02:54 PM (EST)
i have been trying to configure the perl udirectory according to the rules that are specified in the directions (which are quite easy and useful) but have no luck. i have looked at most of your postings and noticed win nt gives some problems with config. what happens is this. i upload the script via wsftp and then i login with the password. then it gives me access. so it looks like it works. then i go to configure. i use the default settings. then i click yes to approve settings. then it gives me a "file error:
Unable to open ../marktest/udirectory-configuration.txt"
ws ftp wont let me change the mode either since its win nt server. but i called the server and they said that the directory for the script and the other folders are all executable with read and write permissions. any help is appreciated!

can you please help!!

We recently updated our reference site at:

http://www.uburst.com/uDirectory/reference.html

And one of the links on our troubleshooting page should help:

http://www.uburst.com/uDirectory/troubleshooting.html#UNABLETOOPEN1

I would suggest first trying item #1 on that link because it may just be that your $html_directory is incorrect. Using the full directory path would eliminate any question (and often solves the problem for NT servers).

Otherwise, the problem would have to item #2 on that link - even though your ISP says that the directory does have READ/WRITE permission. So try suggestion #1 on that link and then double-check suggestion #2 on that link.

hello,
the server did have a problem. so we switched servers and all is good.

A WORD OF ADVICE:
to others setting up on nt, i kept having problems having the cgi point and write to directories outside of the /cgi folder. so i set the pl file in the /cgi-bin folder and it executed files and wrote to the same folder but a different directory /cgi-bin/listings/

i dont know why but it works perfect now. i think windows nt is funny or something because on unix it can point to any directory when i tested it.

later,mark
