"Public Access"

I'm curious as to if we set this up on our web server (we have to to be able to have access to a cgi-bin), will just anyone who goes to our web site be able to pull this up if they knew the actual address to the script?

Also, there is mention on the site of having it ran on the local LAN. How is this possible? Do you need a web server of some sort that has a cgi-bin or what?

Thanks
Ben

Hello Ben,

Are you referring to uShop?
If so, the ushop.pl file can in fact by viewed by anyone who knows its address, but, that is why the password login is there. So the actual script and your password is relatively safe from prying eyes.

I'm not sure what exactly the benefits of running uShop on a LAN would be... but... I think if you HAD to do it you probably could. If you had the right server setup.

If you only want internal users to be able to access uSignIn... and NOT regular visitors to your website...then there are a couple options:

1) Simply don't make the URL of the uSignIn script on your server publicly available.

2) Or setup any type of htaccess control (external to uSignIn) such that users must enter a password to access those pages.

3) Or setup the script on an internal server/local LAN.

As for setting up uSignIn on a LAN... your server would have to be configured as a web server that can run Perl scripts. (ie. install something like Apache Web Server on it along with a Perl interpretter.)
