"Affiliate tracking and PayPal"

Posted by Matt [kacmatt@attbi.com] on at 07:56 PM
I own a license for UShop3 and decided to go with using PayPals shopping cart because of security reasons instead of UShop. It was actually PROVEN to me that members, if they knew how, could change the PRICE or ANY feature in the cart that chose to add and process as an order. Even though the data and all ushop files are in my CGI folder!

I'm a little disappointed by this and tech support will get an email soon asking them for more information!

But for now, my question is as follows:

With using paypal as my processor, I've programmed in PHP using a MySQL database. Can UShop 3's affiliate tracking be integrated somehow with the current setup or has anyone tried this?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

In regard to uShop and your claim to be able to "change the PRICE or ANY feature in the cart", you are incorrect. That is, it is not possible to change the price/features of the items in the cart provided that:

1) You use the recommended relative codebase in your applets (codebase=../classes/).

And

2) You leave the "Referral Page Validation" field (Under "GENERAL SETTINGS - MISCELLANEOUS" on the uShop Control Panel) set to "YES".

Bill,

Thank you... An important, but overlooked setting!

That has been changed and the individual that changed it the first time has been emailed to attempt to try again.

As for the question of affiliate tracking with paypal? Any ideas or suggestions without actually using the cart. I had some problems integrating the pay at paypal interface that's been designed with ushop3.

Please advise...

Thanks, Matt
(Thanks for pointing out that little, but so important setting, I completely forgot about and overlooked it!)

Greetings Matt,

The uShop affiliate tracking feature allows for people to reference your site on their site, and makes note of every user they send to your shop that makes a purchase. It does this by setting a cookie in the user's browser that marks the referring site. You can administer the affiliate tracking by using the affiliate tracking panel in the uShop Control Panel, and see what sites are referring you and which are making purchases. More information about the Affiliate Tracking system and how it is setup in uShop can be found in the user's guide at-
http://www.uburst.com/uShop/reference/users_guide.html#AFFILIATETRACKING

Affiliate tracking works the same way across the board, with PayPal and the other merchant accounts uShop interfaces... as each order is recorded in the Order Reader.

Joseph,

In my previous post, before yours I wrote:

Any ideas or suggestions **without** actually using the cart.

I am currently using **PayPal's** shopping cart because of issues with the paypal interface that Ushop has. I am unable to pass dynamic data due to unknown reasons yet.

So... that being said, my question is... can you use the UShop Affiliate Program WITHOUT using the cart?

Thank you...
Matt

Hello Matt,

I apologize for not understanding at first...
You *AREN'T* using uShop?
The uShop affiliate tracking program is designed for exclusive use with the Microburst uShop Shopping Cart System, and does not interface with PayPal or other forms of shopping carts.

There are no currently known or reported issues with our uShop payment processing interface with PayPal. Are you having specific problems with certain elements of the uShop Shopping Cart system regarding its interface with PayPal? If you are, please submit a support request at http://www.uburst.com/supportform.html and don't forget to specify the URL so we can diagnose it.

Warm Regards,
