"Order Info in Database format"

Posted by Eliz McClymont [e@emccdesign.com] on at 06:22 PM
One of my clients would like the order info to be collected and sent to them in a format to allow them to easily incorporate the info into a database for shipping labels/inventory control.

Is there any way to modify the info sent in the confirmation email, after verification, to send the field info to a txt file or is there a way to modify the "read all" info generated by ushop.pl?

I have just finished the site and they sprung this on me!

Thanks
Elizabeth

Hello Elizabeth,

While it is possible with some script modifications, it is |HIGHLY| recommended that sensitive order information (credit card #, info, etc) is NOT submitted or sent in an automated process. uShop sends order notifications as standard mail through your server's SMTP, and SMTP is not a 100% secure method of information exchange. It would be subject to hacking attempts and vulnerable, which is why sensitive information is stored currently in the secure uShop Order Reader.

A uShop interface with PGP e-mail (a secure method of e-mail) is on our future feature wishlist.

If you have any questions regarding uShop Security, don't hesitate to contact me at support@uburst.com .

Hello again Elizabeth,

On review of your posting, I have a few more comments...
Customer and order logs can be toggled "ON" in the General Settings/Miscelleneous "Customer Log" and "Inventory Log". These will start to record the information in flat files in the [data] directory on your server. You could probably manipulate these files through a database to incorporate into shipping and inventory control.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I will try that. I don't want the sensitive info, I just need the shipping details and what was purchased. By the way, the site is for Dan Marino the football player. It might be useful in your example area. The site is not up yet but you can see it at www.danmarinostowntavern.com/shop.htm

I will let you know how it goes.

Eliz, if you do go with using one of the LOG options, be sure to check out section 6.4 in the uShop Programmer's Guide for tips on how to customize the data format:

PS. Dan Marino! Cool!
