"E-mail from Win2000"

Is there any way to set up uReserve to send e-mail using CDONTS? Or how would I send mail from Windows 2000? I'm an ASP guy, not a Perl guy, so I'm not quite sure how to set this up to send an email. Thanks for your help!

The first thing I would suggest doing is trying the "SOCKETS" email option by specifying the following settings located near the top of the ureserve.pl script:

STEP 1: Locate the "$gen_email_method" setting and change it to "SOCKETS":

$gen_email_method = "SOCKETS";

STEP 2: Locate the "$gen_smtp_address" setting and change it to the IP address of your mail server, such as:

$gen_smtp_address = "123.456.789.0";

STEP 3: Try it out!

If that doesn't work, then there is the option of implementing the "custom_email_method" that is located in the script. That "custom_email_method" subroutine is designed to isolate the place in the script where pretty much any email method available on your server could be implemented. I personally am not really familiar with "CDONTS" .. but if you send me some information it... or preferable another CGI script on your server that is successfully using CDONTS to send email, then I'll help you implement the "custom_email_method" to send email.

I am considering modifying the page to redirect to an ASP script that would send the mail using CDONTS, as we have an Exchange e-mail server and no SMTP server that I know of...

Does this sound like a reasonable solution?

That may work if you add the re-direction in the "reserve_resource" subroutine... possibly directly where the following call is located:

&send_email_notifications($email_message,$res_field3);

... or perhaps just above where the HTML is being printed in the subroutine.

Otherwise, if you find any type of CGI script on your server that is successfully sending email, we may be able to help you implement the "custom_email_method" subroutine (located at the very bottom of the uReserve script) to utilize the same technique to send email.
